✨ Introduction
Volha joined the atelier with curiosity, calm focus, and a spark of creativity. This sketchbook traces her progress from her first controlled experiments with watercolour to expressive compositions and confident colour work. Each piece in this collection captures a moment of growth, technical exploration, and joyful play with the medium.
🍋 1. The Lemon Study
Date: February 2025
Medium: Watercolour on cold press paper
This was one of Volha’s first paintings in the studio. She focused on observing shape, layering soft washes, and creating gentle light reflections. The lemon’s form is simple but full of subtle warmth.
Instructor’s Note:
She approached it with quiet precision and was amazed by how water did half the work. This was her first confident lemon!”
🟣 2. Beetroot Study
Date: March 2025
Medium: Watercolour
This piece shows her beginning to explore textures and contrast. The beetroot’s leaves are lively, with detailed linework and spontaneous splashes. Her confidence grew in combining wet washes with ink definition.
Instructor’s Note:
“The moment she let colour drip and splatter was when her painting truly came alive.”
🍆 3. Eggplants – Compositional Harmony
Date: March 2025
Medium: Watercolour, wet-on-wet
Painting a pair of eggplants allowed Volha to explore symmetry and contrast. She used varied purples and soft gradients to suggest volume and light. This was an early attempt at balanced composition on the page.
🎨 4. Colour Study Page
Date: Ongoing studio practice
Medium: Watercolour test swatches
This page captures her experimental process - swatches, colour mixing, and playful strokes. Volha created her own reference palette and began to notice the relationships between pigment and water.
Instructor’s Note:
“This is the invisible part of progress - discovery through trial and attention.”
🥕 5. Carrot Series
Date: April 2025
Medium: Watercolour
Here Volha practiced repetition, colour variation, and rhythmic layout.
Each carrot was a chance to try new colour combinations and brushwork.
The result is bold, cheerful, and expressive.
🖌️ Final Reflection
Volha's sketchbook is a celebration of patience, exploration, and colour confidence. From her first lemon to her vibrant carrot series, she has developed a strong sense of composition and a personal voice. We’re proud to share this journey and look forward to her next creative steps.
